That was the comment from Phil Parkinson after yesterday's narrow 1-0 defeat at Vicarage Road. He qualified the comment by saying they might not all be recruited prior to next Saturday's opener, but I take that as a throwaway line to aid any negotiations along the lines that we're not desperate (Dagenham & Redbridge take note). I honestly can't see us signing four "new" players, so, looking at the current playing squad, you have to believe we are ready to offer Andy Marshall and Gillem Bauza contracts. If Paul Benson does join from D & R, then that probably means they have the eye on one other and it's anybodies guess what position that might be? We still look short of a Burtonesque forward and that would be my hunch. There was talk of a surprise forward signing, so maybe there is a big announcement yet to come?
The performance at Watford sounds like it was impressive. The Watford Observer noted that it was "concerning how the League One opponents dominated possession and created most of the chances." That said, we played one-up front and failed to create any real clear-cut opportunities. One-up front at least away from home looks like it might be the game plan, in which case I can see Akpo Sodje returning to the role of impact sub which is where we have seen him make his largest contribution so far.
I will be making the 600 mile dash back from the Highlands overnight on Friday in order to be in the pubs of Charlton for lunchtime and re-acquaint myself with all those old faces I have come to know and love over the years. I am expecting a stirring performance and three points with which to get us going.
Come on you Reds!
