Luke Varney returns
If there was any remaining doubt that Luke Varney has been sold to Derby rather than loaned for now, it disappeared this morning with the news that Charlton have agreed that Luke can play for Derby at the Valley on Monday. I can rarely remember a more obvious looking "I told you so" moment waiting to happen. This comedy of errors season continues.

Ridiculous, how can a player still contracted to a club play against them while on loan to another. Football has gone mad. I think if the loan system was scrapped some of these bigger clubs wouldn't be able to sign up everyone just in case they are the new Rooney, resulting in a fairer share of players around the league.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more. What a bizarre decision. I know many fans lost patience with Varney, but I was disappointed when he left. Moreover, I'm sure he couldn't have done any worse than those who played on Tuesday night! Anyway, whatever view you hold on him, it is almost inevitable that he will score or get a major assist on Monday. What on earth is the logic of allowing him to play? Technically, it is a loan deal until January so, presumably, Charlton could have said "no".
ReplyDeleteUnder the rules of the Championship loan system, he can play. It's not the same as the Premiership loan system, where they can't play.
ReplyDeleteIt's also being reported we have agreed the sale, and the papers just need signing in January...and of course, he'll score.
I also heard this morning Curbs has told WH he wants £3m pay off...
I understand they are the rules....obviously! the rules are ridiculous in this scenario. Conflict of interest?
