I have to admit to forgetting that this match was televised this evening. I jumped on Charlton Life after 40 minutes for an update and apart from discerning that the most used adjective thus far was "shite," I quickly twigged that too many people were apparently posting from the game! Oh, and we were one down to a two minute opener which Gary Doherty was being blamed for.
The second-half, then, and Doherty paid the price for his first-half performance as he made way for Fortune as we changed direction. The second-half was a scrappy affair but one which I felt we largely controlled and did more attacking than MK. Reidy was the proverbial thorn-in-the-side and it was from a typical run and curling cross that Pawel Abbott answered my ask and steered home a decent header to put us back in it. As the game wore on there only looked like one side who might win it inside full time and so it proved as Scott Wagstaff slid in at the back post to score from another Reid cross.
I was surprised that we put a full side out door this but have checked and seen that Parky also played a near full strength side in the previous Round. It would appear we are taking this competition more seriously than we did the Carling Cup. Let's hope we don't run out of legs at Plymouth on Saturday.
I was completely indifferent to the result of this Dave - until we got the equaliser! We looked like very mediocre League 1 side for much of this; and then for a few short bursts produce some good moments.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to see whether our strikers are at fault for being anonymous, or the wingers for not getting them quality ball. I thought the TV view would help reveal it. What is showed is that we don't get the ball to our wingers enough.
I forgot Scotty was ther for much of the second half - the ball rarely went near him. Reidy set up his best moments bu winning the ball himself. And weren't his crosses lovely!
Maximum Kudos to the 200 that went up there.

First match I have seen for a while as I am laid up at present.
ReplyDeleteThe Dons goal was a collective fault as everyone backed off and no challenges at all were made in the attack. This just shows how soft we are defensively.
Re recent defeats, Charlton have always lost to teams at the bottom of the league. Having seen the Brentford hi-lights on line yesterday, that has to be the worst kit combination I have ever seen a Charlton team wear. Like Liverpool the all red seems to inspire the team. Should be an easy problem to sort out.
