Gerrard rumour

I have heard a strong rumour that Stevie G may be about to be the subject of a national scandal. If it's true, the press will have a field day and it would raise questions about his suitability to have lead his country at the World Cup. Trouble is, it's so outrageous that it sounds like it could only have been made up in Manchester. News of the World on Sunday!

There's been a rumour doing the rounds about Stevie G for a few months now. Nothing's come out in the press so suspect it's just a bit of Manc propaganda.

And would Capello have let him skipper England if there was a chance of it coming out in South Africa? That would be as daft as - say - bringing on Heskey for Defoe when you're 3-1 down vs the Germans in a World Cup game. Oh, hang on....

  3. A group of Chelsea supporters have been identified as the instigators of the scurrilous rumour about Liverpool FC and England Captain Steven Gerrard and the "sister" of wife Alex Curran.

A source who was close to the England camp says the squad were aware of the rumour and a few of them even received the text message originating from the Chelsea supporters. It was immediately laughed off by the players, most who knew Alex Curran did not have a sister
