All eyes will be on the breaking news and ticker tape sections of the Sky and BBC websites today as the desperate clutch at straws and try to throw double-sixes. I think I am safe in saying that there won't be any more movement involving the mighty Addicks; we had to offload Dean Sinclair in order to afford to bring Kyel Reid in, so I think that's it for us.
As expected, Crystal Palace have had to sell Victor Moses to Wigan, and the £2.5m recouped will presumably be ear-marked for the must-pay debts which include the £100,000 they owe us. I think Palace will need to bring in another couple of million before they can begin the process of writing down their other debts and slashing operating costs across the board, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Neil Danns or Darren Ambrose flogged later today. They will be disappointed with the turn-out on Saturday for their relegation six pointer with Peterborough. In spite of the rallying cry to fill the ground and pump desperate funds into the club, there were barely more than normal in the 14,699 attendance. As I have said before, I think Palace will be alright this season but they may find themselves relegation front-runners next season.
As Arsenal waved goodbye to their chances of the PL title for another season yesterday, it was great to listen to their fans squealing like pigs on 606 last night. The Professor is coming in for some stick for not spending big on a proven top flight striker and they all now seem to acknowledge what most of us have been aware for a long time, and that is that they have one of the worst goalkeeping departments in the PL. One Gooner, trying to put a brave face on things, went on about the young side that Wenger is building and how they will dominate the game for years to come. We have been hearing about the team of the future for the last ten years and they have been five years without a trophy. If they are not careful, they risk leaving Chelsea and Man U as the Big Two in English football.
Finally, is anyone else tired of the John Terry scandal? The man belongs to a select elite of classless men like Dennis Wise, Ashley Cole, Joey Barton and Craig Bellamy. He has form going back over the years and this latest piece of tittle-tattle is hardly surprising in my book. It's all old news and I am sure Wayne Bridge moved on from it all ages ago. Capello won't drop Terry as his captain and it will only remain to be seized upon as a contributory factor when England fail to win the World Cup. The only thing I hope we see is Mrs Terry taking her revenge on her cheating husband and hurting him where it obviously hurts most, in his pocket.
And finally, after their fans protested in clown wigs after Saturday's home defeat, to emphasis the point that they have become a laughing stock, QPR have moved before the window closes. As if to underline their fans fears, they have signed Marcus Bent! You've got to laugh.
Dave, I too saw that Bent has gone to QPR and had a little chuckle. A most appropriate signing given the recent going ons there !
ReplyDeleteWell, we needed an added smile to a mixed week.
ReplyDeleteI see that ZZ will have a new playing partner too, with Celtic getting Robbie Keane on loan, which I would suggest is a bit of a surprise, though Harry doesn't seem to using him lately.
Peterborough should take warning from us...sacking two managers in a season!! Shame on them!!
So the big two? You're not thinking we'll be up there anytime soon then, Dave!? ;)
Suze - a Freudian Slip on my part!
