It starts tomorrow at Walsall, and whilst it's sub-zero up there at night right now, they seem confident the match will go ahead. There are accusations that Norwich "didn't fancy it" on Monday and that they intervened to influence the referee's decision to call it off. I am booked and will be travelling mid-morning, so will be committed to a visit to Birmingham come what may.
There are only two League One games this weekend for those unfortunate enough to have been knocked out of the F A Cup already and who look like their pitches might be fit to play on. That means it's a Norwich v Charlton battle with them trying to out-do us at Wycombe Wanderers.
Walsall v Charlton Athletic
Walsall put up a decent showing at the Valley earlier this season but deserved to be beaten 2-0. Troy Deeney is telling the Walsall public this week that they showed us too much respect in that game and that this will be different. Maybe a case of "he would say that that, wouldn't he" but they have a decent home record and we will need to be as up for this one as we were at Brentford. I see this match as being just as close as the Brentford game and a 1-1, 2-1, 1-2 looks on the cards. If we can score first I will go for us to avoid defeat. We are due a break and we might just get it here - perhaps Dicko will start again and get the goal(s) that might save his Charlton career?
Prediction; 1-2
Wycombe Wanderers v Norwich City
Whilst we are unbeaten in 9, the Canaries are currently unbeaten in 10 and have won 8 of those. If you include their last league loss at Leeds in the last minute, then the run is 11 wins from 14 which is what has catapulted them into third and made them favourites for automatic promotion. They have a fairly easy month with only Colchester to worry about and this hardly looks like mission impossible with Wycombe having conceded five in their last home game to relegation rivals Brighton. Looks like an away banker.
Prediction; 0-3
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way........
Dave, if you're travelling by train and don't have tickets yet I've just discovered that London Midland are offering a flat £10 fare for any journey on their network. Check it out on their website......Londonmidland.com.
ReplyDeletePhil.
The game at Walsall is a major doubt. A very severe frost is forecast for the Midlands tonight.
ReplyDeletePhil - Just found this thanks. I have already paid £35 on-line. I heard the rumour of £10 tickets but whilst singles were advertised at £5.50 online, there was nothing in that price range to get us there and back, so assumed it was a hook fare. I'll try for a refund this morning and use the vouchers - assuming the match is not called off....thanks again.
