Charlton Athletic Supporters Trust

Plans to set-up a Supporters Trust have finally moved on and we now look set to get one of our own. Fans are being asked to register their support for the Trust by emailing their contact details to subcribe@castrust.org and by attending the next scheduled Trust meeting on Tuesday 25th September (venue to be confirmed).

Supporters Trusts have done some fantastic work for other clubs, even to the point of owning and running the clubs themselves. Invariably this is through necessity and means things are done on a shoestring but it's a vehicle that has prevented some of them from going out of business. Pompey immediately spring to mind. Clearly we never want that situation at the Valley and the hope is that our Trust can provide a new focal point between the club and it's supporters.

  1. This is not a dig at those of you involved in this 'trust'

But did it not come about due to the series of wild rumours circulating Charlton blogs. That the club was skint and heading for administration? (Rumours that i and a few others consistently said had no basis in FACT)
As the rumours seem to have now been proved baseless. Is the 'trust' still a worthwhile objective?

  2. Daggs, it was once said that, "All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."

    I'll leave it at that.

  3. I think the rumours at the summer rather than inspiring a dash to rescue the club from impending doom, were a catalyst in a different way. I believe what happened was the events of the early summer highlighted the need for a Supporters Trust, the ownership of our club is shrouded in mystery via an offshore company, we no longer have a fans director, and we no longer count those with influence at high level as Charlton fans (if you assume Murrays influence is now very minimal) all things which allowed us the privelege to be called a model club in that regard. In short whether you believe the rumours or not we no longer enjoy the level of access we as fans once did with the Club, back to the old days before we were forced to leave the Valley.

This doesn't make the Board our enemy, indeed quite the opposite, my hope is that we can engage with them positively to the gain of the club, after all we have a lot of interests in common. It just means a group of us that that may grow to include a lot our fans feel that we need independent representation in this new era.
