Wycombe Wanderers 1 v Charlton Athletic 2

Charlton did the damage in the first-half with two Bradley Wright-Phillips goals which gave them enough of a lead to secure an impressive sixth away win of the season. Wright-Phillips' haul also moves him onto ten league goals, just one short of the division's top scorers, Jordan Rhodes and Gary Madine (who was sent off this evening at Carlisle).

The second-half was a quieter affair and Wycombe saw more of the ball. Beavon pulled one back for the Chairboys after 63 minutes and they had plenty of possession in the last half-hour as they tried in vain to force an equaliser. Scott Wagstaff came on for BWP with ten minutes left as Charlton looked to stretch the game and relieve some of Wycombe's pressure. The last few minutes were the usual nail-biting Addicks stuff but we held on.

There were questions being asked of Chris Powell after the limp defeat at Stevenage but he has answered them clearly and decisively with six goals and six points in two games. We can't expect to win every game we play but it looks like we are capable of competing in them all if we can keep free of any serious injuries and field our best eleven.

With Scunthorpe forcing a late draw with Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday going down at Carlisle, it was a good evening's work and gives us a three point gap to defend at Hartlepool on Saturday.
