Championship betting preview

Should Charlton lose to Southampton at the weekend and Plymouth and Norwich win the Addicks will finally be relegated, if my sums are right at least.  A draw may also be needed by Barnsley but it is all just mathematics now and the focus should be on next season and hopefully just a brief stay in League One.

I’ve decided to offer a Championship betting preview ahead of the weekend’s fixtures because there is enough doom and gloom around at the moment and everyone at the Valley must surely be resigned to their fate by now.

I’m going to put my neck on the line a bit with the first one and go for Doncaster at home to Watford.  Donny may have lost their last three games but they were against Birmingham, Reading and an away trip to Coventry – none of which are easy games.  Watford are pretty poor on the road and have managed just three wins and four draws in their 17 games away from Vicarage Road and Donny should just edge this one.

Predicting a draw is always a bit of a risky strategy but for me Preston’s visit to Bristol City has got stalemate written all over it.  Both sides are pushing for play-off places but Bristol have been the draw kings at home and Preston are pretty poor away.  This is a game neither side can really afford to lose and 1-1 might be a decent online football bet to have a look at.

On Monday Birmingham host Wolves in what is a massive game at the top of the table.  I’m tempted by the home win in this but it should be a tight encounter.  I doubt either side will give much away and backing under 2.5 goals could be a better move than the home win as sometimes these games disappoint and you get a 0-0.

Cheers

Gareth
